Heads-up, hands-free augmented reality (AR) software is revolutionizing employee training and the way employees to perform procedures. This technology allows trainees to see virtual images and information overlaid onto the real world, providing an immersive and interactive learning experience. In this blog post, we’ll explore the benefits of using XRMentor®’s step by step procedures and interactive LessonsXR™ software to train technicians.

How can XRMentor™ Deliver Self Guided Training

Trainers are at a premium, especially when you want to train remote technicians with a goal of consistent performance and compliance to standard procedures.  While our ClassroomXR™ feature can help you reach remote trainees at scale, our self-guided features enable trainees to learn separately from instructors and hands on if desired, efficiently delivering increases in consistency and compliance.  Using XRMentor® technicians can now use two different training features for self-guided training, step by step procedures and LessonsXR™.

First, using Step by Step Procedures a trainee wearing a Microsoft HoloLens 2 is guided through a series of steps in a standard procedure, prompted by heads up, hands free instructions.  The instructions are supplemented by multimedia including video instruction, imagery or schematics or even animated 3D models.  Following training, the procedures and the multimedia can be made available on mobile devices, both Apple and Android.  This feature is a perfect addition to an existing hands on training curriculum as trainees reference the instructions to complete tasks with real equipment and tools.

Second, LessonsXR™ is a great compliment to the Step by Step Procedures.  LessonsXR™ (available in the HoloLens and on mobile devices) engages trainees in high interactive activities that progressively educate the trainee on a particular part, assembly and tasks. For example a lesson might introduce an assembly, explain the role of each part, teach using animations how to assemble, disassemble, install or remove a part and even engage them in complex problem solving or decision making.

These two features are highlighted in the video below.

What are some of the benefits of using these features for Training?

One of the main benefits of using augmented reality step by step procedures or LessonsXR™ for training is that it allows technicians to practice procedures in a safe and controlled environment. With AR, trainees can see virtual representations of equipment and tools, and can practice performing procedures without the risk of damaging real equipment or injuring themselves. This not only reduces the risk of accidents during training but also helps build confidence in the trainee’s ability to perform the procedure correctly.

Another benefit of using XRMentor™ for training is that it can significantly reduce the time and cost associated with traditional training methods. With XRMentor™’s self guided features, trainees can practice procedures at their own pace and can repeat sections as many times as needed until they feel confident in their abilities. This eliminates the need for expensive training equipment and reduces the time required for training sessions.

XRMentor™ also allows for more effective knowledge retention. By providing an immersive and interactive learning experience, XRMentor™ helps trainees better understand and remember the steps involved in performing a procedure. This is because AR engages multiple senses, including sight, sound, and touch, making it easier for trainees to retain information.  In a pilot XRMentor™ was used to train novices how to calibrate a collision avoidance system, and following step by step instruction, all trainees were found to complete the tasks in the correct order within an expected time limit as judged by the original equipment manufacturer.

In addition to improving knowledge retention, AR software can also provide real-time feedback to trainees. As they practice a procedure, the software can detect if they are making any mistakes and provide immediate feedback on how to correct them. LessonsXR™ in particular is able to evaluate performance and even provides a summary of how well the trainee performed.  This not only helps trainees learn more quickly but also ensures that they are performing the procedure correctly.

Another benefit of using AR software for training is that it can be easily customized to meet the specific needs of individual trainees. For example, if a trainee is having difficulty with a particular step in a procedure, the software can provide additional information or guidance to help them overcome that challenge. This level of personalization helps ensure that each trainee receives the support they need to successfully learn the procedure.

Finally, XRMentor™ can also be used to provide remote training to technicians located in different parts of the world. With ClassroomXR™ trainers can perform a demonstration to trainees located in remote locations, eliminating the need for expensive travel and reducing the time required for training. Trainees can then leverage the step by step procedures or LessonsXR™ for reinforcement.

In conclusion, heads-up, hands-free XRMentor™ offers numerous benefits when used to train technicians to perform procedures. From reducing risk and cost to improving knowledge retention and providing real-time feedback, AR is a powerful tool that can help organizations improve their training programs and ensure that their technicians are well-prepared to perform their duties.
